February CCDP Newsletter
Greetings Everyone!
Welcome to February. Let's hope we have a really good Ground Hog Day.
We have several things going on in February. But before I get into it, I want to express how horrified we are at what is currently going on in our country, especially with what ICE is doing. In the past few weeks, two people in MN were basically murdered by the poorly trained thugs that now work for ICE and CBP. There seem to be no boundaries that they won't cross. We need to contact our Senators and tell them that we object funding DHS until Kristi Noem is fired, due process is followed and the brutality that is being used stops. Countries are putting us on their travel advisories as places that are not safe to travel to.
In other news...we are getting a new website. It will be rolled out in about the next 6 wks. We are excited about the new look and it will be easier to maintain. On our Act Blue donation page, we will now have a place where people can donate to our local food banks. We will be helping Indivisible with their ongoing endeavors to collect food for local food banks. The money we collect will be distributed, on a rotating basis, to the different food banks to help them with things that are difficult for them to obtain; things like meat, fresh fruits and vegetables, etc. Speaking of our donation page, we are encouraging people to make monthly reoccurring donations so we can keep our doors open in order to help get our people elected.
As for events, at last month's 2nd Saturday, we hosted Natasha Deane from Jackson County, who spoke about the ongoing issues they are having with Christian Nationalists. People in attendance seemed very pleased having her be our speaker. For February's 2nd Saturday,, we will be hosting Jerri Green, who is running for Governor. Please come out to meet her at 11 am on Feb 14. In March, we will be hosting both Mike Croley, who is running for Congressional District 6 (John Rose's seat) and Monica Mowdy, who is running for State House of Representative's District 25, (Cameron Sexton's seat). This will be held at 11 am on March 14th. Please mark your calendars.
On February 28th, we will be having a Winter Olympics Outdoor Fundraiser.
A detailed Flyer will be posted to the Blue Wave FB page as well as the
CCDP FB page. Also, there are 2 events on Monday, February 2. The 1st is the Democratic Women's Group that is meeting at noon at La Costa. The 2nd is the Blue Wave lunch at Dorchester Golf Course Snack Bar.
Another opportunity for someone to run is the School Board District 1 seat. There is more detail below if you are interested. The deadline for filing is February 19th.
And finally, as always, I am making a huge request. We need people willing to roll up their sleeves and help us get the vote out for midterms. There is much to do and only a handful of people doing the work. Please join us. We need ALL the help we can get.
Anyway, I hope it's a great February for all of us.
Sincerely,
Linda Boerman, Chair
